Attempted Murder Charges For Bolingbrook Man After Stabbing: Police

BOLINGBROOK, IL — A Bolingbrook man has been charged with attempted first-degree murder and home invasion after a stabbing on Sept. 22 in Bolingbrook, according to a release from Bolingbrook Police.

Police said officers responded to a home in Bolingbrook at 12:20 a.m. Sept. 22 for a reported stabbing. Officers found a man in the basement of the home suffering from several stab wounds.

Officers immediately rendered medical aid, while also trying to identify and find the offender, according to police. Through investigation, officers learned that the offender was an acquaintance of a woman who lived in the home, police said.

According to officials, the women had seen the offender, now identified as Ivan Atilano, 36, of Bolingbrook, in her backyard and went outside to speak with him. Police said Atilano pushed past the woman and entered the home through a basement door and began stabbing the man.

Atilano fled on foot, police said.

The victim was taken to an area hospital, and is currently in stable condition, police said.

Police were able to get an arrest warrant for Atilano, found him at a home in Romeoville on Sept. 26, and took him into custody without incident, police said.

Atilano was charged with attempted first-degree murder, home invasion, residential burglary, aggravated battery, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, criminal trespass to residence, and domestic battery.

Atilano was taken to the Will County Adult Detention Facility. He will appear in court on Sept. 27, and bond was set at $200,000.
