Bolingbrook Club Seeks Donations For Trip To Help Flood, Tornado-Stricken Town

The summer service learning trip is set for June.

BOLINGBROOK, IL -- Bolingbrook High School’s Student Ambassadors organization is looking for community members and businesses interested in helping out with the costs associated with a summertime service learning trip.

The Ambassadors, whose main purpose is to help new students assimilate into the hectic daily life at BHS, are hoping to head June 11 to 17 to East Baton Rouge Parish in Louisiana, where they will work hand-in-hand with other volunteers for five days to help restore an area ravaged by flooding and tornadoes.

The cost of the trip for each student is nearly $500, including transportation, meals and lodging. BHS social worker Julie Mueller, who serves as one of the faculty advisors for the Student Ambassadors, anticipates several dozen BHS students will attend.

“Service learning projects like this do so much for the character values and responsible behavior of the young adults who participate,” Mueller said. “And it promotes a profound sense of civic participation they won’t find anywhere else.”

Individuals and local businesses interested in donating funds for students who might not otherwise be able to make the trip should contact Mueller at MuellerJL@vvsd.org.
