Bolingbrook High School Teacher Honored With State Theatre Award

BOLINGBROOK, IL — Bolingbrook High School teacher David Morrison has been named as a recipient of the Illinois Theatre Association's 2026 High School Theatre Award of Excellence, according to a news release.

Morrison will be honored at a presentation on Aug. 29. Each year, the Illinois Theatre Association recognizes both individuals and organizations for their significant contributions of promoting quality theatre throughout the state of Illinois, according to a news release.

Morrison was nominated by the Illinois theatre community and accepted by the ITA's Board of Directors.

According to a news release, Morrison is one of the heads of The Brook Theatre, Bolingbrook High School’s co-curricular
theatre program. He holds a BFA in Acting Performance from Northern Illinois University and an MA in Secondary Education from Roosevelt University.

He studied abroad in 2004 at the prestigious Moscow Art Theatre in Russia under Adolf Shapiro. Morrison has helped expand theatre class offerings in the district, including a dual-credit acting class with Lewis University, the news release states. In 2024, he co-produced the Illinois High School Theatre Festival All-State production of She Kills Monsters.

His professional resume includes several musical theatre productions and voiceover work throughout Chicago. He also works as a fill-in traffic reporter for WBBM Newsradio, according to a news release.
