It’s the first time in five years BHS JROTC earned the Distinguished Unit Award after Cadets “far exceeded anything they have done in previous years with respect to serving their community,” according to Senior Aerospace Instructor Lt. Col. Dion Scaglione, USAF (Ret).

Prior to this year, the unit averaged 12 community service hours per cadet, but this year the cadets raised that mark to an average of 20 per cadet, helping more people than ever before in the rich 40-year history of the program.

Earlier this school year, the BHS AFJROTC earned the highest rating possible in its Air Force unit evaluation. Also, Cadet Commander Linnea Volkart, was promoted to Cadet Colonel, the highest cadet rank possible and was also named the BHS English Department’s Outstanding Student of the Year.

“This was really an extraordinary year, with extraordinary accomplishments by cadets and instructors alike,” said Col. Scaglione.
