Bolingbrook Man Threatened Family With Knife, Police Say

The Bolingbrook man was arrested on Coventry Lane.

BOLINGBROOK, IL - This week, residents of Bolingbrook who live on Coventry Lane may have noticed an abundance of police cars on their street. On Monday night, Bolingbrook Police officers responded to a home in the 1100 block of Coventry to make a domestic violence arrest. John Groll, 37, was taken away in handcuffs and driven to the Will County Jail. According to Bolingbrook Police, Groll was charged with domestic battery, aggravated assault and obstructing a police officer.

The incident unfolded around 6:20 p.m. Monday in Bolingbrook. Officers were dispatched to the home and they learned that Groll had jumped on the back of a family member and he was struggling with that relative over a cell phone, Bolingbrook police said.

"Groll also allegedly threatened the family member with a knife," police reports show.

When the cops arrived, Groll tried to flee the scene by climbing into his car, police said, adding that Groll "refused to comply with officers demands." Eventually, the officers took him into custody.

After spending 24 hours in the county jail, Groll posted 10 percent of his bail, which was set at $15,000, jail records show.
