Bolingbrook Park District Invites Residents to Enjoy Playgrounds
"Day of Play" Set for Saturday, August 24

BOLINGBROOK, Ill. – "Unplug" and celebrate the opening of four new playgrounds. Bolingbrook Park District invites you to the “Day of Play” on Saturday, August 24. Starting at 11:00 am, each new playground will have music, games, giveaways, and free ice cream for the first 100 guests for one hour. See the full schedule below:
- 11:00 am-Noon Poplar Park (870 Poplar Ln.)
- Noon-1:00 pm Jaycee Park (550 Lily Cache Ln.)
- 1:00-2:00 pm Lily Cache Greenway (On Parkside Dr., West of Weber Rd.)
- 2:00-3:00 pm Heritage Park (702 Passan Dr.)
“After passing the referendum in November, we’re excited to bring the projects that we talked about to life for our residents to enjoy,” said executive director Ron Oestreich. “We hope to see everyone out to celebrate with us as we open up these playgrounds.”
Begin the day of play by running in Parkie’s Famous 5K/10K & Kids Fun Dash at 8:00 am at the Bolingbrook Recreation & Aquatic Complex (200 Lindsey Ln.). We’ve partnered again with Famous Dave’s in Bolingbrook (located at 704 Janes Ave.) to bring you the ultimate in race experiences. You want food? You got it! All runners will receive a BBQ sandwich and two sides, along with a free bottle of Famous Dave’s BBQ sauce. You want more? We got that too! Unplug Illinois is a statewide movement from Illinois Park and Recreation Association designed to get people to “unplug” and enjoy active play opportunities at parks across Illinois. This initiative promotes healthier lifestyles, sustainable environments, thriving economies and engaged communities.
After you’ve ran and played on playgrounds, you can finish your day with the End of Summer Backyard Campout at Hidden Oaks Nature Center. Bring your tent and dinner to cook over our campfire, or buy dinner to eat at the campfire. After dinner, take a night hike and enjoy other activities and crafts to take home. S’mores will be provided for all in attendance. Campout starts at 5:00 pm and ends Sunday, August 25 at 8:00 am.

The Bolingbrook Park District is a public parks and recreation agency located in Bolingbrook, Illinois. The Bolingbrook Park District operates two community centers, an indoor/outdoor aquatic park, golf course, banquet hall and restaurant, two fitness centers, two outdoor skate parks, a sports complex, nature center and conservation area, and 49 parks along with their many playgrounds, picnic shelters and over 1087 acres of land.
