BOLINGBROOK, IL — Bolingbrook Police Department hosted the Irish Minister of State at the Department of Justice and Equality last week, the department shared in a news release.

The minister, James Browne, represents County Wexford in Ireland; a community which is forever linked to Bolingbrook after a 2017 fatal automobile crash that killed four people including Bolingbrook Police Officer Steve Alexander, the department said.

Steve, his brother Doug Jr., and their parents Doug Sr. and Lily were killed in the crash while visiting Ireland to attend a family funeral.

The department said Steve was a 17-year veteran of the department, a Raid Entry and Containment Team leader, park officer, and a father to two young daughters. During his visit, Minister Browne met with Steve’s daughters, Trinity and Savannah, and spoke of the impact that their family’s passing had on his community and presented them with gifts.

Police Chief Mike Rompa also officially dedicated the Raid Entry and Containment Team's newest vehicle in Steve's honor, the department said. Each vehicle in the Village’s fleet bears a unique unit number, but REACT’s armored van will have a special one.
