Bolingbrook, Romeoville chambers partnering for Women in Business

Launching golf lessons program; planning expanded programs for 2020

In a new official partnership the chambers of commerce of Bolingbrook and Romeoville are working together to present expanded offerings through their Women in Business programs.

“We’ve always been supportive of each other’s efforts but this is the first time we are officially partnered,” said Bolingbrook Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Kevin O’Keeffe. “By sharing the load we can offer more events through our Women in Business (WIB) program.”

“The Romeoville Area Chamber of Commerce has named 2020 ‘The Year of the Woman’. We are excited to team up with Bolingbrook to bring this program to a larger audience,” said Romeoville Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Lenny Criddle.

The expanded Women in Business program will be able offer monthly networking and business development events in 2020.

The chambers are kicking off the partnership with the Women on Par golf program. Held over three Thursdays in January at Mistwood Dome in Bolingbrook, the program offers one-hour lessons for the beginner golfer at a special rate.

“Many times business and networking are conducted on the golf course. By not joining in, women are left out of the discussion,” said Grace Tucker, manager of member services and events for the Bolingbrook Area Chamber of Commerce.

“Women can be hesitant to play golf due to of lack of skill or not knowing the rules,” said O’Keeffe. “Golf can be taught, the key is to have proper etiquette on the course and that’s what we hope to accomplish with this program.”

“Learning to golf is great, but the most valuable part of this program is getting to do an activity with other women professionals” said Criddle.

“If you have not grown up golfing or learning the sport, entering the workforce where it could be critical to business can be intimidating. This is a perfect opportunity to learn in a stress-free environment with other professional women from actual golf pros,” said the Membership Director at the Romeoville Area Chamber of Commerce, Olivia Hegber.

Other plans for 2020 include panel discussions at Southern Glazer Wine & Spirits and at ULTA; a St. Patrick’s Day Business After Hours at Mistwood Golf Course in Romeoville; a mentoring event with college students; a health topic presentation at AMITA; and a summer pub crawl at The Promenade Bolingbrook.
