What started as a passion for holiday decorating has turned into a Christmas light show, complete with songs from “Frozen,” “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas” and other movie favorites.

Bolingbrook residents Justin Hummer said the holiday light show at 716 Bluebird Lane — complete with more than 10,000 LED lights — has already gained a following.

“It’s starting to really pick up,” he said. “A lot of people have been filming the show, and more and more people are coming every night.”

The show kicked off on Thanksgiving, Hummer said. The effort is the work of Hummer and his friends and roommates, Christopher Kapus, John Kapus and Ashley Shepherd.

“We’ve always done the most Christmas lights on the block,” Hummer said. This year, the friends decided to take it up a notch and set their lights to music.

Right now, the show includes about 30 minutes of music, which repeats from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. weekends, going until about 10 p.m. on weekends. This weekend, Hummer said he and his roommates plan to add new songs to the mix, for a 45-minute show.

That way, guests who make repeat visits will be able to see something new, Hummer said.

The show includes a 15-foot dancing Christmas tree, leaping arches that jump in time to the music, mini trees, strobe lights and more. A unique element is a 2,000-LED light “screen” of Christmas lights.

All of the elements are controlled by computer. Guests who stop by can also tune in to 95.1 FM to play the music from their vehicle’s speakers, Hummer said.

So far, the musical lineup includes several songs from “Frozen,” along with “The Grinch” and “The Chipmunk Song.”

The effort has been a while in the making, according to the roommates.

“We started planning in July,” Hummer said. The roommates plan to offer a holiday light show each Christmas and Halloween.
