BOLINGBROOK, IL — It's nearly October, and that means Halloween is just a few weeks away. October 31 falls on a Monday this year, and the Village of Bolingbrook has set its trick-or-treat hours from 4 to 7 p.m.
The Village gave several safety tips to families for the holiday:
- Turn on your porch light if you want to be visited by trick-or-treaters
- Trick-or-treaters should only visit houses/apartments of people they know
- Children should use sidewalks where available and walk, not run, between houses
- Use caution when crossing streets and only cross at intersections when clear of traffic
- Costumes should be light and bright, so they are clearly visible to motorists and could carry a flashlight as well
- Parents should inspect candy and goodies before allowing children to consume
- Motorists should be vigilant and extra alert during trick-or-treat hours
- Know which friends your child is traveling with if not accompanied by an adult
- The fire department said battery-operated lights are best when illuminating a jack-o-lantern; to avoid any contact with flammable materials.
The Village said the police department will have additional officers patrolling during trick-or-treating.
