BOLINGBROOK, IL - One local art teacher and several of his students recently got a chance to unleash their artistic talent for a fun-filled project that teaches a life lesson.

Brooks Middle School art teacher Charlie McDermott and other artists around the country were chosen to take part the “Butterfly Effect” project. The project is based on the idea that an act as simple as the beating of a butterfly’s wings can have a profound effect around the world.

McDermott was selected to participate in painting a mural in Chicago, and he invited Brooks students Aidan Chavez and Elijah Boykin to work on the project as well.

By participating, Aidan and Elijah got the experience of working with clients, painting in front of an audience and working on a mural. The “Butterfly Effect” was started by one artist and has really taken off around the U.S.

The finished murals are painted in such a way that when someone stands in front of the mural, the butterfly wings look like they belong to the person in the photo.
