Bolingbrook Teen Is UChicago Athlete of the Week

Mia Farrell attended St. Dominic School in Bolingbrook.

BOLINGBROOK, IL -- Bolingbrook teen Mia Farrell, 18, is the University of Chicago Women's Athletic Association Athlete (WAA) of the Week.

A graduate of St. Dominic School in Bolingbrook, Farrell is a freshman guard for UChicago's women's basketball team. According to the WAA, Farrell has appeared in 24 games for the Maroon and has averaged 10.5 points off the bench. The team is currently in a first-place tie in the University Athletic Association standings.

"She finds a way to score almost every time she touches the ball - shooting from three, attacking the basket, getting herself to the free throw line," head coach Carissa Sain Knoche said. "In addition to her scoring, she also shares one of the toughest defensive loads - guarding the ball and guarding it well. Her position is always the starting point for our defense, so she should feel pretty good about the fact that we are leading the conference in forced turnovers as a team."

Teammate Britta Nordstrom said Farrell is an "anchor" for the team.

"She has come up clutch in late-game situations, as well as applied pressure to the other teams' point guards," Nordstrom said. "All of these things have been absolutely integral to the success of this team especially in the conference season."
