Before we were parents to the two-legged kind, we were parents only to the four-legged.
When we first bought our house in Bolingbrook four years ago, we knew that the first addition to any home is a dog. Off to West Suburban Humane Society we went!
Shortly after getting our beloved Duke, the loudest coon hound in the Will County area, we began bringing him almost daily to the dog park. This quickly became our favorite weekend ritual. We loved the dog park, but we felt the overall area lacked something. The trail was just a quick walk that didn't even circle the lake. There was fishing, but no docks or piers. After Duke had a run-in with another dog at the park we stopped going all together.

Fast forward a few years. We now have our son and I started looking for a local stay-at-home mom group. I found a great group on meetup.com. One of the mom's posted that she was going for a walk at Whalon Lake and I decided to join her. Little did I know that the trail was now opened up all the way from Weber Road. through the prairie and around the lake. It was beautiful! After enjoying a nice walk and girl talk with my new friend, I was eager to return!
Well anybody that read my previous post, "A Walk in the Park", knows that I was not too happy with my local park. My husband and I decided to go over to Whalon and give it a try. Between our recent weight loss and the breathtaking beauty of the trail, I had the best run of my life! We have since been back a few times and we extend our run further and further each time. The trail is clean. The fellow runners, walkers, and bikers are friendly. The dog park is always busy with barking dogs playing. The outhouse is surprisingly super clean. I am looking forward to warmer weather so that we can get out and hit the trail more often. I highly recommend this trail to everybody!
