Natural Solutions for Your Flower Container

"Green" practices in the garden.

I was planting some containers for my yard and for some friends and found an idea that I wanted to share.

If you have a large planting container, you do not need to fill it completely with new soil.  A great way to recycle the  plastics and non-biodegradable packing peanuts lying around your house would be to fill the lower half  of the container with the packing peanuts or crushed plastic waste (such as water bottles, detergent bottles, etc.), and then fill the top half with soil before planting your plants.

The annuals that you use for a flower container only use about the top 10- to 12-inches of
soil anyway.  This practice will not only lighten the planter for easy moving around the yard, but it’s a great way to recycle these products.
