Thursday evening I decided to go on a "date" with my two sons to the Spring musical at Bolingbrook High School and I left the performance in a state of amazement. I had no idea there was so much talent amidst the teens at BHS & I must share my experience!
"Once Upon A Mattress" is a re-telling of the fairytale "The Princess & the Pea" set to wonderful music and joyous dancing. I had not seen this musical before and, let me tell you, this young cast has set the bar quite high for any future renditions.
These lads & lasses particularly drew my attention:

The Princess Winnifred was played by a young lady who exuded personality from the moment she came on stage. I was mesmerized by Janelle Villas as she delivered her comedy with flawless timing. Her voice is quite amazing, as well. In my opinion, she stole the show.
Karlie Vega pulled off Queen Aggravain with delicious precision. She made me love this hateful character with her hilarious portrayal of a over-bearing mother who only wants the best for her dear, dear son, Prince Dauntless (played by Shane Cook). Karlie flounced around the stage like a true Queen!

King Sextimus the Silent may not have had much to say but Jonathan Slowik gave Marcel Marceau a run for his money as he mimed his way through the show.
Jon Worlton made me jealous of Lady Larken (played by Hannah Wangler) as Sir Harry sang & danced with his lady-love. Jon has a wonderful stage presence and a beautiful voice and he & Hannah (another true talent!) had great chemistry on stage.
There are far too many in the cast for me to tell you my thoughts on each & every one but I encourage you to log-on to www.showtix4u.com and buy tickets for tonight's or tomorrow's shows! You will NOT be disappointed.
