What is Happening to Our Town?

The crime in Bolingbrook seems to have really gotten out of hand. How do you feel safe letting your children have freedoms when there is so much danger out there?

First off, I can not believe it has been that long since I wrote a post and for that I am truly sorry!

So now, to the blog at hand...what is happening in this town?  Not a day goes by that I do not see another crime story reported from Bolingbrook.   What used to be a quiet town (back when I was growing up) now makes the news more often than I care to hear.

In today's Chicago Tribune there is an article about helicopter parenting and a group of families that have formed a club, where they let the kids (5th grade) have a bit of freedom every few weeks.  The children are to stay with the group and can go no more than 6 blocks from the neighborhood, but they get an hour to go off with NO adults, just a cell phone.  Apparently there is a park and an ice cream (or candy shop) within those boundaries.  For obvious reasons, they did not state where in the US this is, and it even mentions that the parents felt they would jeopardize the "safeness" if the locale were disclosed.

My husband left this out for me today with a note penned across the top..."are you ready for this?"  After reading about the young man who had his clothes taken from him at gun-point or the young lady who used a box cutter against another man and a police officer; I have to say, "I am not sure."

Where do you stand?  Could you do it?
