Brooks, Addams Students Move on to Valley View Spelling Bee

Following fierce competition, both Jane Addams Middle School and Brooks Middle School crowned their grade level spelling bee champions Thursday afternoon.

The Brooks’ Bee went 29 rounds with seventh-grader Camille Ogunleye winning the school title by correctly spelling “flaxen." She qualifies for the Feb. 7 VVSD Spelling Bee at Humphrey Middle School, along with sixth-grade winner Elias Chavez and eighth-grade winner Eric Bebenov.

Runnersup were Kirena Carthans in sixth-grade and Marjia Ahmed in seventh grade.

Jane Addams went 12 rounds befor seventh-grader Christian Melendez won the school crown by spelling “anesthesia” correctly. He edged seventh-grader Danielle Vidad , who will also head to the VVSD bee. Vidad won the seventh-grade title by properly spelling “eucalyptus” in round 8.

Serena Sah will be Addams sixth-grade representative at the district bee after correctly spelling “Honolulu” in round 7.

Addams runnersup were: Abida Asad in 6th grade, Armaan Suga in 7th grade and Bismah Rashid in 8th grade.
