Brooks Middle School Crowns Spelling Bee Champs

BOLINGBROOK, IL — Eighth grader Simran Sanghera will have another opportunity to win the Valley View School District 365U Spelling Bee after winning the Brooks Middle School championship Wednesday.

Sanghera, who finished 5th in VVSD last year and also qualified for the 2015 Will County Spelling Bee, correctly spelled “estuary” in the 12th round to win the title. Other words she spelled enroute to the title included legislature, pachyderm, pinnacle, solstice, hegemony, serpentine, alternate, shoji and acetone.
Sixth grader Marjia Ahmed finished second by getting “badger” right in the 10th round after properly spelling such words as inclement, joule, ramifications, latency, jai alai, plaintiff and alfresco.

Third place went to 7th grader Numa Noorin after she spelled mogul correctly in the 9th round. Other words she got right included mawkish, pancetta, vituperative, stagflation, gargantuan and territory.
Sanghera, Ahmed and Noorin all will compete at the District Bee at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 2 at Humphrey Middle School.
