Brooks Volleyball Team to Play for Third Place in State

The team will take on Parker Junior High School at 5:30 p.m. March 22.

Brooks Middle School’s eighth grade girls volleyball team will take on Parker Junior High School (19-2) at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at downstate Rochester Junior High School for third and fourth place at the IESA state championships.

The Bulldogs (17-10) edged Unity Junior High School of Tolono in a quarterfinal thriller Saturday 23-25,25-18 and 26-24 before dropping a state semifinal contest to Summit Hill Junior High of Frankfort (24-2) 17-25 and 12-25.

In the Brooks quarterfinal win, Kaylee Wnek (4 aces, 11 service points), Kaylee Zihala (8 service points), Taylor Coley (3 aces, 7 services points), Estefania Melo (7 services points), Chloe Knaak (1 ace, 4 service points) and Christina Zeitler (2 aces, 2 services points) led the way.

Against Summit Hill, Wnek registered an ace and 4 service points, Zeitler 2 aces and 3 services points, and Knaak and Zihala one service point each.
Other team members include Daniyah Whitehurst, Anaiz Lechuga, Bailey Berry, Alicia Sandoval, Susan Flores, Rose Williams, Illiana Chavez, Fatima Cladren and Arianna Barajas. They are coached by Molly DeSerf.

Summit Hill will meet Minooka Junior High (22-2) for the state championship following the third place game.
