Brooks Volleyball Team Will Compete For Third Place in State

The Bulldogs will face off against Channahon on Tuesday.

Brooks Middle School’s 8th grade girls volleyball team used devastating serving in the quarterfinals Saturday to advance to the third place game at the Illinois Elementary School Association’s Class 4A state championships at Mt. Zion High School.

The Bulldogs (14-9), who have gotten hot toward the end of the season, will meet Channahon for third place at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Brooks rode 13 aces (6 by Chloe Knaak, 4 by Ashleigh Curtiss and 3 each from Christina Zeitler and Mary Francisco) to a 25-12 and 25-21 state quarterfinal victory over Parker Junior High of Flossmoor.

They lost in the semifinals to unbeaten Hickory Creek Middle School of Frankfort, the over whelming favorite to take the state title, 10-25 and 17-25. Hickory Creek will meet Mt. Zion in the championship game.

Team members include Mary Francisco, Ashleigh Curtiss, Valerie Froylon, Sasankaa Mummeredi, Tianna Hill, Christina Zeitler, Chloe Knaak, Viviana Perales, Kaylee Wnek, Nicole Kadziola, Olivia Mansuur and Brooklyn Douglas.
