Bolingbrook native performs in Augustana's Sankta Lucia Festival
Brock Obmascik, a Sophomore majoring in Business Administration-Marketing from Bolingbrook (60440), was one of more than 45 Augustana College students to participate in the college's annual Sankta Lucia Festival.
The celebration, held at Augustana's Ascension Chapel, commemorated the Sankta Lucia Festival with traditional Scandinavian Christmas carols, lessons and poetry.
Sankta Lucia is a cherished tradition of the Advent season in all the Nordic countries. A candlelight procession of singers is led by a young woman robed in white with a crown of candles on her head, to commemorate the martyred St. Lucy (d. 304 AD).

Bolingbrook student partners with police department for mental health initiatives
Norah Obinyan of Bolingbrook (60440) is among the Lewis University students helping gather feedback on Trinity Services' Co-Responder Assistance program. The co-responder program between New Lenox-based Trinity Services and local law enforcement works to reduce arrests and recidivism by providing people with mental health screenings and substance abuse screenings.
Lewis University students enrolled in a Community Engagement Learning Course, "Criminal Justice Research Methods", are collecting information through focus groups with law enforcement officers involved with the program throughout the region. The Justice, Law, and Public Safety Studies students are asking the law enforcement professionals about their thoughts on the program, such as its trainings, partnerships, hospitalizations and outcomes.
Most recently, students of Assistant Professor Dr. Hannah Klein met with the Palos Heights Police Department to discuss their partnership and involvement with Trinity Services' co-responder program, which assists law enforcement encountering someone in need of mental health services. In addition to meeting with law enforcement officers, they have also met with the Trinity staff involved in the efforts to get their perspectives.
During the semester-long project, Sarah Bourell, Samantha Gomez, Norah Obinyan, James Thomas and Michaela Williams are meeting with law enforcement officers and mental health professionals about their involvement with the program.
