BOLINGBROOK, IL — Bolingbrook residents will now get their electricity from Commonwealth Edison starting Sept. 29, unless they opt out and choose another supplier.

Last week, Bolingbrook residents received a letter from ComEd saying Constellation NewEnergy, Inc., will no longer be their electric supplier of choice, prompting questions from residents.

Bolingbrook, along with 17 other communities in Will County, is part of the Will County Electric Aggregation Group, which allows the group to negotiate to purchase a combined electric supply for its residents. The 18 municipalities pooled their residents to purchase wholesale electric power, officials said, and since the contract with Constellation NewEnergy came to an end, they switched to ComEd.

The electric supplier is governed by the Illinois Commerce Commission, and ComEd adjusted their rate, prompting the switch, village staff said in an alert to residents. Staff also said ComEd's new rate is comparable to the previous independent supplier's rates.

Residents can cancel the switch to ComEd up to five days before Sept. 29 by contacting ComEd or visiting the customer choice part of its website.
