Construction Begins On Bridge At I-55, Route 53

The first phase of construction requires one lane of traffic to be shut down, in each direction.

BOLINGBROOK, IL — The Illinois Department of Transportation has started work on repairing the Interstate 55 bridge over Route 53, the Village of Bolingbrook said.

Repairs are expected to take two construction seasons, with an estimated completion date of November 2023, according to the Village.

The first phase of construction requires one lane of traffic to be shut down, in each direction, in order to provide space for the contractor to work, the Village said. This phase is expected to take approximately two months.

The next phases will allow all four lanes in each direction to be open to traffic.

This is not a Village of Bolingbrook project; work is being done by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
