Fatal Crash Involving 3 Cars Blocks I-55 At Bolingbrook

Four cars were involved in the early Monday morning accident, according to Illinois State Police.

BOLINGBROOK, IL — A fatal motor vehicle accident involving three cars closed all southbound lanes of Interstate 55 at Weber Road for several hours Monday near Bolingbrook. Illinois State Police tell Patch the accident happened at around 3:49 a.m.

With all southbound lanes blocked, traffic was being diverted off at Weber Road.

A preliminary investigation indicate a car was parked partially in the left lane in I-55 due to a previous crash. Another car was traveling southbound in the left lane, sideswiped the previously mentioned car, and became disabled in the lane of traffic. A third car then struck the second car in the rear, causing it to catch fire.

The driver of the struck car was pronounced dead at the scene by the Will County coroner, according to police. The drivers of the other two cars reported no injuries at the scene. A passenger in one of the cars was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
