Cross-Country State Qualifiers Recognized By Valley View School Board

Romeoville HS student Sophia Flowers and Bolingbrook HS student Hussein Almousawi were recognized.

BOLINGBROOK, IL — The Valley View School District Board of Education recognized its cross-country state qualifiers at its recent board meeting.

The board recognized Romeoville High School student Sophia Flowers as an IHSA girls cross-country state qualifier, and Bolingbrook High School student Hussein Almousawi as an IHSA boys cross-country state qualifier.

Romeoville High School Head Coach Chuck Yucuis said Sophia was first at the Plainfield Central Wildcat Invitational, she was third at Argo's invitational, fourth at the Tolefree/Farly Tinley Park invitational, first place at the Will County Cross-Country Championships, 11th at the conference race, fifth place at regionals, and 22nd place at sectionals.

"At that state meet, great experience, there were 234 girls, and Sophia is a sophomore, she took 91st," Yucuis said. "She had a tremendous season."

Bolingbrook High School Head Coach Jeff Lester said the boys cross-country program has been represented at state 15 times.

"Hussein is the ninth individual to qualify," Lester said. Lester said Hussein qualified at a sectional course where he fell at the end of the race, and literally crawled over the finish line, taking 14th place and qualifying for the state meet.

"That shows the dedication he has, for this sport, for his team, for his school," Lester said.

Hussein got 42nd place at the state meet.
