Drew Peterson Attacked In Prison Chow Hall

Another inmate allegedly wanted to sell the disgraced former Bolingbrook cop's belongings online.

TERRE HAUTE, IN — Less than two months after the Illinois Department of Corrections shipped him off to a federal prison in Indiana for being "a threat to safety and security of the department," Drew Peterson was attacked by another inmate who reportedly wanted to sell his belongings on eBay. The former Bolingbrook police sergeant and convicted murderer was transferred from downstate Menard Correctional Center to the maximum-security federal prison in February after a brief stop at Stateville.

Peterson is serving a 38-year sentence for the 2004 murder of third wife Kathleen Savio and had 40 years tacked on for a failed jailhouse plot to murder Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow.

A source at the federal prison told WBBM Peterson was attacked with a food tray but not badly hurt, and was transferred to another area of the prison. The motive for the attack was apparently financial: The inmate wanted access to Peterson's personal items so he could ship them to family to be sold on eBay, the source said.

The 63-year-old Peterson was "jumped" in the chow hall on March 29, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Peterson was convicted of Savio's murder in 2012. His fourth wife, Stacy Peterson, has been missing since October 2007. The Illinois State Police named Peterson a suspect in Stacy's "potential homicide" but have yet to actually charge him with harming her.
