Golden Chopsticks Owner Peter Chan Has DUI Trial Delayed Until December

Bolingbrook restaurant owner Peter K. Chan is now scheduled to go on trial in December at Will County's Courthouse.

Starting Wednesday, Peter Chan, owner of the Bolingbrook restaurant, The Golden Chopsticks, was go on trial at the Will County Courthouse on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. As it turned, the lawyers for both sides agreed on Wednesday to delay Chan's trial until December. Chan, now 63, was arrested by Bolingbrook police officers on suspicion of DUI early December 17, 2015.

At around 3:15 a.m., Chan was driving a brand-new 2016 Toyota car and headed westbound on Boughton Road near Pinecrest. At the intersection, Chan's car drew the attention of a Bolingbrook police officer who turned on his squad car's flashing lights and pulled Chan over.

As a result of the traffic stop, Chan was charged with DUI, a misdemeanor offense. Since then, Chan, who lives in Naperville, hired Joliet criminal defense layer Jeff Tomczak to mount a vigorous defense and challenge the Bolingbrook Police Department's case.

On Tuesday, Tomczak told Patch that both he and the Golden Chopsticks owner are upbeat about their chances of prevailing at this week's trial.

"We are looking forward to putting on our case, and we believe that the evidence will show a reasonable doubt," Tomczak said.
