Felon Smoked Reefer, Kept Loaded Pistol In His Backpack: Police

BOLINGBROOK, IL - To some people, he's J. Muny. To others, he's David Wells or Darius Wilson. The Will County Correctional Officers know him by his real name, Javion Ewing. Five days after Bolingbrook police arrested the 22-year-old Chicago resident, the convicted felon remains inside the Will County Jail, where he faces a stiff $100,000 bond. Ewing's latest troubles with the law began at supper time on Saturday. That's when a Bolingbrook police car turned on the blue and red flashing lights and pulled Ewing over around 5:45 p.m. Ewing was driving a maroon Hyundai in the 800 block of East Boughton Road, Bolingbrook police said.

As Ewing sat behind the wheel and answered questions from police, Bolingbrook's patrol officers "detected the odor of marijuana emanating from the car. The Bolingbrook K9 responded which resulted in a positive alert," Bolingbrook's reports show.

It turns out that Ewing's problems with police were way worse than being busted for smoking dope in his car.

He had a gun inside his backpack, and it was loaded, according to Bolingbrook police. "Officers searched the car and located a loaded 9mm handgun in a backpack in the vehicle," reports show.

Ewing was handcuffed. Next he was taken for a ride to downtown Joliet. He was booked into the Will County Adult Detention Facility on two felony crimes, unlawful possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, unlawful possession of ammunition and a misdemeanor offense of having no FOID.

He remained in custody late Thursday night.
