He Used Crowbar To Beat Man In Bolingbrook: Complaint

Russell Lee Blake II of West Virginia spent nine days in the Will County lock up, finally posting his $75,000 bond Tuesday.

JOLIET, IL - You don't see too many defendants housed in the Will County Adult Detention Facility that list an address in Smithers, West Virginia. But one 52-year-old man from the town of 800 people in West Virginia spent the past nine days locked up in the Will County Adult Detention Facility. Russell Lee Blake II wound up being arrested by the Bolingbrook Police Department on Sept. 11 on felony charges of aggravated battery and a misdemeanor charge of unlawful use of a weapon. According to the criminal complaint, Blake used a crowbar to "knowingly cause bodily harm to Lombardo Gaeta in that said defendant struck Lombardo Gaeta with a crowbar."

The misdemeanor charge notes that Blake "knowingly carried a dangerous instrument, a crowbar, with the intent to use it unlawfully against another person." Court records filed at the Will County Courthouse did not indicate the extent of Gaeta's injuries.

After Blake was taken into custody, his bond was set at $75,000. Court records reflect that Blake has hired Joliet criminal defense attorney Cosmo Tedone. On Tuesday afternoon, Blake managed to come up with $7,500 cash, the required 10 percent, to free himself from the Will County jail pending his future court appearances. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Oct. 6.
