'I Feel Like Joe Is About To Crack'
Bolingbrook resident Joe Schaefer did prison time about 10 years ago for firing a shotgun at two Bolingbrook police sergeants.

BOLINGBROOK, IL - The man from Bolingbrook being jailed for illegal possession of a gun, which was a metal blow dart gun used to shoot wild game, was ramping up his violent tendencies, documents at the Will County Courthouse show. Joe Schaefer, 55, is being detained on two felony counts of illegal use of a weapon by a convicted felon. Schaefer's alleged crimes occurred at his father's house in the 300 block of Drake Avenue on March 4. Schaefer was initially taken to the hospital after the police call on March 4.
This past Wednesday, on March 14, Schaefer was taken into custody at the Will County Jail. There is no doubt that Bolingbrook police took precautions before making the arrest.
Back in 2008, Schaefer, already a convicted felon at the time, fired a shotgun at one of the Bolingbrook Police sergeants but missed. He also fired a shotgun blast at a second Bolingbrook sergeant but he missed as well. Third, Schaefer pointed a shotgun in the direction of a Bolingbrook Police lieutenant, his criminal complaint reads. Schaefer was apprehended at the time and charged with attempted murder. He ended up with a five-year prison term under a plea bargain that reduced his criminal charges.

Since he got out of the joint, Joe Schaefer began terrorizing his father, an order of protection reads. Schaefer's strange behavior has intensified, culminating with the incident on March 4 at his father's house in Bolingbrook.
"I was in my bathroom and Joe knocked on the door and then I heard him put an X mark on my door and he said, 'I'm going to use this blow gun on you," Schaefer's father wrote in his Will County order of protection reflecting on the March 4 episode.

"I opened the door and hit him. He lost his balance and hit the door frame. I called the police and they came with an ambulance. The police arrested him and he was taken to the hospital. The police took pictures of my house and they confiscated the blowgun and a BB gun."
Joe Schaefer moved into his father's abode last April "when he was thrown out of his apartment," court documents state. "He steals my money, tools, a knife sharpener, he takes my medicine," the protection order reads. "He says he wants to be colonel because generals are stupid ... he knows I feel sorry for him so he cons me. He searches my room when I'm not in it. He took my aluminum bat from the garage and put it in my kitchen. I'm afraid he is going to use it on me."

Since Joe Schaefer moved into Drake Avenue, he has "put his fist through my wall and has trashed my house He is slamming doors. He is acting really crazy. He follows me wherever I go."
The Bolingbrook police told Joe's father "they are checking him for mental illness. He has been in and out of the hospital for mental illness," the order states.
For now, Joe Schaefer remains incarcerated inside the Will County detention facility on a $250,000 bail.
"I feel like Joe is about to crack and is going to hurt me while I'm sleeping," his father wrote Will County's court this month.
