Health food company Kashi has just agreed to a $5 million settlement of a lawsuit claiming some of the company’s product contained unnaturally processed and synthetic ingredients.
As part of the settlement, the company will avoid using the “All Natural” or “Nothing Artificial” labels on certain products. The lawsuit claimed that stamping the phrase “All Natural” or “Nothing Artificial” on some Kashi products was misleading.
Consumers will get the chance to recover 50 cents for every product purchased between Aug. 24, 2007 and May 2, 2014. They must, however, provide written proof in the form of a receipt or retail rewards submission.

Of course, the cost of a stamp is 49 cents. So if a consumer had only one receipt to turn in – the net gain after the price of the stamp to send in the claim is factored in would be a whole penny!

The lawyers get $1.25 million for their work on the case. So consumers get pennies and the lawyers get a $1.25 million pay day? How is this justice?
The vast majority of consumers will never even send in a claim for the simple fact that recovering the money will be far more trouble than it is worth.
This is not justice but then again jackpot justice is not justice – it is about greed. The lawyers are the only clear winners in this case. After all, they have 1.25 million reasons to be happy with the outcome.
