Jane Addams Girls Headed to Basketball Quarterfinals

Bolingbrook team will compete this weekend.

Jane Addams Middle School’s eighth-grade girls basketball squad utilized a devastating second half run Wednesday night to whip Flinn Middle School of Rockford 33-16 in the sectional finals and move into the Illinois Elementary School Association Class 4A state quarterfinals.

The Mustangs (20-2) will meet unbeaten Minooka (22-0) at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Rochester Junior High School with the winner moving on to the state semifinals at 6:30 Saturday evening. The third place and championship games are at 6 and 7:30 p.m. Dec. 18, also at Rochester.

Addams outscored the Falcons 24-6 in the second half, turning a 10-9 halftime deficit into victory.

Aureyel Davis led Mustangs scoring with 9 points, Alyssa Cazares added 7 and Tati Helaire, Damia Patton scored 5, Arielle McElroy added 4 points, Makala Conway 2 points and Jazmine Doguin 1 point.

Other team members include Mercedes Spann, Charlize Abed, Caitlin Stephens and Jamayah Bennett.

They are coach by Ed Hasselberg with assistance from Christina Miller.
