Man Charged After Throwing Stolen Gun In Yard: Cops

Kenneth Smith, 34, exited a home, threw a gun down in the yard, and returned to the home, police said.

BOLINGBROOK, IL — A man has been charged with possession of a stolen firearm after a report of suspicious activity on Elm Court at 11:46 p.m. Saturday, Bolingbrook Police said. Police were told that a man, identified as Kenneth Smith, 34, had exited a home, threw a gun down in the yard, and returned to the home.

Officers found a handgun in the yard of a home, and a check of the gun indicated it was previously reported stolen from another jurisdiction, police said. While police were at the scene, Smith exited a home, and he was positively identified as the person who discarded the gun.

Smith was taken into custody and officers located cocaine on him, police said. Smith also had an active warrant for his arrest.

Smith was charged with unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of a controlled substance. He was taken to the Will County Adult Facility.
