Man Punches Bolingbrook Cop In Face: Police

The high-speed chase that led to the two arrests occurred Wednesday night.

BOLINGBROOK, IL - Two men from Bolingbrook are now residing in the Will County Jail after they got captured following a high-speed chase with officers at the Bolingbrook Police Department. The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Officers had Joseph Blakemore, 32, under surveillance as he walked outside of his residence in the 800 block of Beech Drive, reports show.

At that point, Blakemore got inside a Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Shawn Malzahn, 31. Blakemore had a felony warrant out for his arrest, police said.

"As the vehicle approached Lilly Cache and Creekside Drive the officers activated their emergency lights and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The driver, later identified as Shawn Malzahn, 31 years of age, from the 200 block of Shady Lane, did not stop and accelerated at a high rate of speed northbound on Creekside," police said.

Then, all of a sudden, the Tahoe stopped at an intersection and "Malzahn and Blakemore exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. An officer grabbed Malzahn and Malzahn punched the officer in the face," police reports show.

Malzahm remained violent, now "attempting to punch and kick officers. As officers were attempting to arrest Malzahn, Malzahn attempted to pull a knife from his waistband. Officers were able to gain control of the knife and Malzahn was taken into custody," police said.

As for Blakemore, he got away at first but eventually he "was spotted by officers and taken into custody a short time later," reports show.

The following criminal charges were filed: Malzahn was charged with aggravated battery, unlawful use of a weapon, resisting a police officer, and he had an active arrest warrant. Malzahn is also currently on parole.

As for Blakemore, he was charged with resisting a police officer and taken into custody on the active arrest warrant.

Both men ended up inside the Will County Adult Detention Facility.

Malzahn's bail was set at $275,000. Jail logs indicate Blakemore is being held without bail.
