BOLINGBROOK, IL — When police arrived at a home on Woodcreek Drive around 9 p.m. Wednesday on a domestic battery call, they found no indication of a physical altercation. A man and woman refused help. But when police returned 25 minutes later, they heard screaming and later arrested a Montgomery man, officials said.

Police were told that after they left the apartment the first time, 39-year-old Vernon J. Jones shoved a woman into a door frame and hit her in the face, officers told Patch. Police said she didn't require medical help.

Police also alleged Jones threatened the woman with a handgun, which officers said they found on the scene.
