Services Announced For Bolingbrook Cop Killed In Ireland Crash
Officer Steve Alexander, his brother and their parents were in Ireland to attend a family funeral when all four were killed in a crash.

OAK LAWN, IL — Visitation for a Bolingbrook police officer killed in a Dec. 4 crash in Ireland is slated for 3 to 9 p.m. today, Dec. 15, at Thompson & Kuenster Funeral Home, 5570 W. 95th St. in Oak Lawn, the Village of Bolingbrook announced Friday afternoon. A law enforcement walk-through is planned for 7 p.m. for Officer Stephen Alexander.
Funeral services will take place at the funeral home chapel at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, proceeding to St. Gerald Catholic Church, 9310 S. 55th Court in Oak Lawn for a 9:30 a.m. Funeral Mass.
Inurnment will be private.

Alexander, 49, died along with his parents, Lily Ryan-Alexander and Doug Alexander, both 75, and brother, Doug Alexander Jr., 52, in a crash in New Ross-Wexford, Ireland. The family was in Ireland for another relative's funeral.
"Steve was a proud father who left behind two daughters, age 11 and 10, who were his pride and joy," the the Bolingbrook Police Department said in a statement issued after the family tragedy.

Steve Alexander had an associates degree in criminal justice from the College of DuPage and graduated from the Cook County Police Academy in 2001 as the class valedictorian, Bolingbrook police said. He received a Life Saving Award in 2013 and the department's Top Gun Award and was nominated for Police Officer of the Year in 2014 and 2015.
The Alexander family hailed from Oak Lawn. Matriarch Lily Alexander had emigrated to the United States from Patrickswell in (County) Limerick.
