Taser Needed To Arrest Bolingbrook Stalker: Cops
Sheldon Merritt remains in Will County's custody as of Thursday afternoon.

BOLINGBROOK, IL - Officers at the Bolingbrook Police Department used a Taser on Tuesday afternoon to subdue an 18-year-old village resident who they say tried to fight with officers as they tried to arrest him. Now, Sheldon Merritt finds himself staying in the Will County Adult Detention Facility where his bail was set at $100,000. Merritt was charged with aggravated stalking, violation of a protection order, domestic battery and resisting arrest.
According to Bolingbrook Police reports, "Merritt began texting and calling the victim in violation of an active order of protection. Merritt then located the victim and grabbed the victim. The victim was able to break free and was able to notify police."
Around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, police say they found Merritt in the 300 block of Woodcreek Drive and notified him that he was under arrest. During the handcuffing process, though, "Merritt began to fight with officers," reports show. "Officers deployed a Taser and Merritt was taken into custody."
