Two Lanes Closed On I-55 In Bolingbrook For Emergency Repairs

All lanes should reopen later Tuesday evening, according to IDOT.

BOLINGBROOK, IL — The right two lanes on the outbound Interstate 55 bridge over Route 53 are closed for emergency repairs, according to a news release from IDOT.

IDOT said the necessary repairs have been made to the bridge deck, but additional time is needed for concrete to set and gain strength before the lanes can reopen. A concrete mix with an accelerated cure time was used, but the low temps slow down concrete curing.

The left lane of the bridge, and the ramps remain open, IDOT said.

IDOT anticipated that all lanes would reopen later Tuesday evening, but it could take more time if the concrete has not cured.

This section of the roadway is approaching the end of its useful lifespan and is currently being reconstructed, according to a news release. The project includes a new bridge deck and is anticipated to be completed later this fall.
