Mexicano and Dirzo are among the 2179 residents so far confirmed to have had coronavirus in Will County, but fortunately avoided the fate of the 136 residents who have died due to the virus. A March study on coronavirus published by researchers from Harvard University and the University of Hong Kong estimated that the disease's overall fatality rate was about 1.4 percent. The study found that those younger than 30 and older than 59 were more at risk than their middle-aged counterparts, but as the cases of Mexicano and Dirzo show, it is clearly not a hard and fast rule.
Patch contacted Edward-Elmhurst for comment on the good news, but staff said they could not offer comment due to HIPAA concerns.
