Video Cameras, Panic Buttons to be Added to Valley View Schools
The school board approved using a state grant to spend more than $400K on security upgrades to district schools.
Valley View School District 365 is upgrading the security system throughout its schools to the tune of more than $400,000, according to a Chicago Tribune report.
The school board recently approved a $439,000 plan that would put video cameras at all the entrances of schools in the district, as well as install a lockdown system that would include school panic buttons, the report stated. The lockdown system is currently being installed and should be ready by the end of the school year, the report added.
These enhancements are being paid for thanks to an Illinois School Security Grant, the report stated. However, the grant won’t cover all the expense; the district will still be on the hook for $11,234, which will come out of its operations and management fund, the report added.
