Bolingbrook Hate Crime Convict Back In Will County's Jail

Rachel Tuszynski of Bolingbrook is back in the Will County Jail again.

BOLINGBROOK, IL - A 30-year-old woman from Bolingbrook convicted of committing hate crimes against long-time Republican conservative Mayor Roger Claar by spray-painting numerous swastikas and obscenities across his house last year is back in Will County's custody. Rachel Tuszynski, who lives on Coral Court, was arrested by the Will County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday morning.

Tuszynski became the subject of multiple articles in Patch as well as the Chicago Tribune after she was arrested in September 2017 by Bolingbrook Police for six felonies and two misdemeanors.

On Dec. 21, 2017, Tuszynski became a convicted felon by entering a guilty plea to several serious charges: threatening a public official, criminal damage to property as well as the felony hate crime offense. Her other criminal charges were dropped under the plea.

At that point, she had already served three full months in jail. She was released from custody just days before Christmas. In recent years, the Bolingbrook woman was featured in a national newspaper article circulated by The Associated Press where Tuszynski talked about her political activism as part of the Black Lives Matter movement.

As part of her sentencing one year ago this week, the Bolingbrook resident was ordered to remain under the treatment and care of a psychiatric professional and have no contact with Mayor Roger Claar, his wife and their immediate family. She was also put on 30 months of probation, the record shows. Claar was a big supporter of President Donald Trump's candidacy for president.

Then last month, court records show, confidential documents were filed at the Will County Courthouse indicating Tuszynski had violated the conditions of her court probation. A petition to revoke her sentence of 30 months probation was filed on Nov. 11 by the Will County State's Attorney's Office.

On Nov. 27, a bench warrant was issued for her arrest after she failed to appear in court.

The judge noted that she will need to post $6,000 cash in order to get out of the Will County Jail this time around.
