Officers Rescue Family From Burning Building On West Side

Four officers were treated for smoke inhalation after saving five people.

CHICAGO, IL — Four police officers were treated for minor smoke inhalation after helping a family out of a burning building on the West Side, officials said. The officers were on patrol just after midnight when they saw a two-flat building on fire in the East Garfield Park neighborhood, police said. A woman told the officers her family was still inside the building.

The officers went into the home at 3900 West Congress Parkway, alerted residents, and helped them out of the building, police said.

The fire displaced three children and two adults, four of whom were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition, according to fire officials.
