Ald. Hopkins Petitions To Reopen 13th District Police Station
Ald. Brian Hopkins said a crime spike in Wicker Park, East Village and Ukrainian Village has prompted a petition.

CHICAGO, IL — Ald. Brian Hopkins (2nd) is hoping to drum up public support to reopen the 13th Police District Station. The alderman said the Wicker Park, East Village and Ukrainian Village neighborhoods have seen a crime spike since the 12th and 13th Police Districts merged in 2013. He's started a petition urging Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Chicago police Superintendent Eddie Johnson to reconsider the impact of the merged stations.
"Concurrently, police presence and response times have diminished, and criminals are becoming more emboldened," Hopkins stated in an email to constituents.
He introduced a resolution to the City Council Nov. 8 calling on Emanuel and Johnson to resume operations at the former 13th District facility.

"It’s time to collectively, as a community, come together and say 'enough.' I'm asking for your support and to lend your name to this petition," Hopkins stated on the petition's webpage.
The alderman urged residents to go door-to-door in their neighborhoods to collect signatures.
