Bucktown Man Tries to Disarm Cop After Uptown Armed Robbery: Police

Darnell Lamont Murphy, 52, faces a string of felony charges stemming from the Thursday incident.

CHICAGO, IL — A Bucktown man is accused of resisting arrest after holding a woman against her will and robbing her at gunpoint Thursday in the Uptown neighborhood, according to Chicago police.

Darnell Lamont Murphy, 52, of the 1600 block of West Le Moyne Street, faces the following felony charges stemming from the incident, according to police:

  • robbery with a dangerous weapon
  • disarming a police officer
  • unlawful restraint
  • two counts of resiting or obstructing an officer

His bond hearing is scheduled for Friday.

Brandishing a gun, Murphy confronted a 22-year-old woman at around 12:05 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, in the 1000 block of West Wilson Avenue and demanded her money and property, police said. When an officer approached him, Murphy resisted arrest and attemped to take the cop's gun, police said.

Police eventually arrested Murphy in the 4700 block of North Winthrop Avenue.
