Cafe con Leche Closes in Bucktown

The restaurant closed in early August after about six years in Bucktown.

After about six years in Bucktown, Cafe con Leche closed in early August.

Several publications speculated on its closing after noticing equipment removed from the location at 1732 N. Milwaukee, but owner Ulysses Salamanca said in a direct message on Twitter that a new owner will open a different restaurant there.

The Mexican restaurant has different ownership from the Cafe Con Leche in Logan Square.

After a few years of operating the restaurant from South America, Salamanca returned to the U.S. in October 2012 and wrote a letter to customers on the Cafe con Leche website.

"I made the decision to follow my heart and moved to South America but made the big mistake of thinking I could operate my business from afar," he wrote. "What was an instant hit with people and media critics alike had turned into a mediocre restaurant at best!"
