Celebrate Venetian Night at Navy Pier
Festivities Begin at 7:30 p.m. with a spectacular Firework Show Following the Boat Parade
Navy Pier is celebrating Venetian Night on Saturday, September 12, with a magical “Once Upon a Time” theme. This free aquatic parade will feature more than 15 boats, each decorated in celebration of this year’s theme, while sailing along Navy Pier’s lakefront.
Spectators will gather on Navy Pier’s South Dock for the aquatic parade beginning at 7:30 p.m. The boats will sail from the East End of the pier along the South Dock toward the city with a fireworks show, courtesy of Navy Pier, at the conclusion of the parade.
A long time Chicago tradition beginning in 1958, Navy Pier began hosting Venetian Night in 2014, partnering with the Chicago Yachting Association to bring this popular Chicago tradition to the half mile stretch of Navy Pier’s South Dock.

Each yacht is given creative license to decorate their boat in accordance to the theme. Many participants will add lighting, props and other materials to bring the ‘Once Upon A Time’ theme to life! At the end of the evening, prizes are awarded in three respective categories—adherence to the overall theme, originality, and lighting.
Guests in attendance will be asked to cast their vote for their favorite Venetian Night boat on Navy Pier’s Twitter, Instagram and Facebook pages using the hashtag #BoatVoteNP.

As Navy Pier moves into the year of its Centennial celebration, new summer events like Venetian Night and Movies on the Pier, provide unique and family-fun activities for Chicagoans and guests to experience. During the Centennial year, Navy Pier, Inc. will continue to reimagine itself and update its features, amenities and cultural programming.
This multi-year effort will include exciting enhancements such as a new world-class Ferris wheel, new restaurant offerings and the transformation of 50 acres of its premier urban waterfront space. The reimagination of Navy Pier aims to enhance guests’ experience, while continuing to host popular celebrations such as Venetian Night.
