'Game Over' for Double Door: Attorney

Popular Wicker Park music venue may soon sing its final tune.

Double Door, the popular Wicker Park music hall and nightclub on Milwaukee Avenue, has yet to renew its most recent lease that expired in October and may be closing soon.

The matter is expected to be addressed in Cook County Circuit Court on Dec. 10 as property owners are pushing for Double Door’s eviction.

Bonita Stone, an attorney for the owner and landlord of the property, told NBC-5-Chicago he building’s lease states the tenants must ask to have their lease extended 180 days before the lease ends. Since that never occurred, property owners filed a forcible detainer complaint.

“From my perspective the lease is clear and it’s kind of game over,” Stone said.

This isn’t the first time Double Door, a Wicker Park staple since 1994, has come close to becoming extinct. Another disagreement about the lease nearly closed the establishment in 2014.
