Boys win a pair versus Francis Parker; Girls to play Notre Dame in 2nd round of GCAC Blue playoffs

In a split of non-conference boys’ basketball contests, Holy Trinity won both ends of a home

and road series versus Francis Parker February 3.

The Tiger Junior Varsity played at home IN THE JUNGLE and peppered their rival by a 47-29 count, while the Varsity traveled to Parker’s Lincoln Park gym and completed the sweep of this series there on the road.

“Just a matter of finishing the contests in a timely fashion,” commented Holy Trinity Athletic Director Leroy Jarka on the 2-site set-up.

In what was probably their best second-half effort of the season, the young Tigers outscored Parker 32-18 the final 14 minutes of play,with four Tigers posting double-figure numbers.

Junior Jason Doung equaled his career high with 12 points while sophomore teammates Christian Trejo, Keflon Gideon and Joel Marcial each added 10. All four buried two treys each in the contest.

The younger Colonels were led by C. Heyman who had 8 points.

NEXT for the Jv boys: These young Tigers have 3 more games prior their participation in the Chicago Prep sophomore playoffs. Friday, Feb. 5 they are @ CICS Ellison; Saturday, Feb. 6 home vs. Latin @ 2:30pm & Mon. Feb. 8 home vs. Rochell-Zell @ 5:30pm IN THE JUNGLE.

Varsity Turns Back Francis Parker for their 14th win.

Meanwhile @ Francis Parker, the Tiger varsity improved to 14-8 on the season with their 67-48 trimming of the host Colonels.

Leading the way for HT was senior Marlin Caston who had 26 points and teammate Justin Robinson who added 20.

Francis Parker 7 - 11 – 15 – 15 = 48

NEXT UP: for the Varsity: Friday Feb. 5 @ CICS Ellison @ 6:30pm and Monday, Feb. 8 – a rematch with Rochell-Zell @ HT. Monday’s game will be senior night starting @ 7pm.

Lady Tigers Fall to Seton in GCAC Blue Division playoff opener.

Seton Too Much for Visiting Tigers;

Notre Dame Girls High is 2nd round opponent

Thursday, Feb. 4 @ HT.

In Girls Catholic Athletic Blue playoffs, Holy Trinity traveled to South Holland Seton Academy February 2nd but unfortunately returned home on the short end of a 63-16 score.

“Seton was really focused to win this one,” commented Tiger head mentor Tim Sheehan. “Our only bright spot was our early 2-0 lead. Otherwise it was all STING!” he added.

The team returns home Thursday, Feb. 4th to face Notre Dame Girls high in the second of three games in this Blue bracket.

“We can still advance to the second place game with a win at home,” Sheehan stated.

HT had defeated the same Notre Dame team in a league contest a week ago by a final of 23-8. So a determined Tiger team is set to take the win and then their chances in the third round finals.

The remaining game will be played Saturday, Feb. 6 @ Queen of Peace (see schedule below).
