Holy Trinity Drops Chicago Prep Contest to Hope Academy

Hope Academy 58, Holy Trinity 51:

Hope Academy 58, Holy Trinity 51:
Despite a frantic fourth quarter rally which saw a Hope Academy’s 10-point lead dissolve to 1 with only 40 seconds to play, the host Tigers of Holy Trinity (11-4 overall and now 2-2 in the Chicago Prep Red Division) came no closer, as the visiting Eagles (8-7 overall and 4-0 CPC) prevailed in the
end to post a 58 to 51 conference victory.
The Eagles moved out to a 12 to 8 first quarter lead on the strength of Journey Fleming (9 points overall and 5 of 6 from the free throw line), while Holy Trinity featured their top scorer Marlon Gaston who finished with 14 points and 6 rebounds for the night.
By the half, Hope had moved to a 28 to 19 advantage and seemed to have the contest in hand with Troy Johnson posting 9 of his overall 15 points for the game coming in the second stanza to help secure the Eagles lead.
But Holy Trinity would not go away.
Slowly but surely the Tigers fought their way back as Adrian Santiago scored 9 of his game total 13 points in the third quarter and teammate Christian Camarillo sparked the 4th quarter for HT with nine points of his own before fouling out with about a minute left to play.
In the end, the Tigers were unable to garner consistent free throw success, hitting only 15-of-30 on the night from the charity stripe.
Hope’s Malcolm Sellers was the other double-figure contributor for the Eagles, posting 14 points.
Other then Camarillo’s & Santiago’s 13 points apiece and Gaston’s totals, center Justin Robinson was held to just 7 points and 6 rebounds in the game. Somewhat under his season average.

Next up for Holy Trinity is a non-conference match-up versus Lisle this Saturday January 16th at Holy Trinity. Tip-off is set for 7pm.
