Hostess Chases Down Thieves to Retrieve Customer's Wallet

Alicia Colon, a hostess at Bucktown's Irazu restaurant, stopped a getaway cab and got an eyeful before returning the wallet to the customer.

Alicia Colon chased two thieves out of the Irazu restaurant at 1865 N. Milwaukee Ave. on Saturday, tried to open the door of their getaway cab and helped hold the robbers at bay until police arrived. Even though one of them lifted up her shirt and pulled down her pants in front of her.

ABC-7-Chicago tells the bizarre story of Colon, the two accused thieves and the victim, who surely wasn’t expecting this kind of service when taking her mother out for a pre-Mother’s Day brunch.

It all started when Darlene Henderson, 51 and Carl Hurn, 53 walked into the restaurant, waited for a table and were seated in a booth next to the daughter of Ruth Nadonly. Reports indicate Henderson and Hurn worked to steal the daughter’s wallet right before Colon went into action.

"She was like one, two, three, boom, boom, boom," Nadonly told ABC. "She knew right away they had stolen it."

Colon chased the pair outdoors, saw them get into a cab and tried to open it. When she found out it was locked, she yelled for the driver not to leave.

“They get out of the car and the lady literally pulled up her shirt and pulled down her pants saying she didn't have it. Then, they started to run," Colon said.

By then, the scene was attracting the attention of bystanders, several of whom called the police. Both were charged with felony theft. Colon was able to get the wallet back, and return it to Nadonly.

"I just felt like it was the right thing to do,” Colon said. “I just wanted to help this lady out.”
